Kyla managed the direction of Global Envision from 2011-2015, curating and editing content, teaching journalism best practices, writing, and managing the team of regular contributors and guests writers. She also oversaw Global Envision's annual speaker series hosted by Mercy Corps' Portland-based Action Center, welcoming innovators and thinkers from Planet Money, IDEO.org, Microsoft, and international think tanks.
Kyla also served as a Communications Strategist for Mercy Corps, conceptualizing marketing plans for thought leadership initiatives. She also collected stories about the agency's impact in Uganda, Zimbabwe, Timor Leste and Nepal, including immediately after the 2015 earthquake.
Before joining Mercy Corps, Kyla was a senior account executive at Jascula/Terman and Associates, a Chicago-based public affairs firm. There she handled media relations, stakeholder engagement and special events for a variety of nonprofit and private sector clients, such as The Carter Center, the Illinois Holocaust Museum, and Urban Prep Charter Academy.
Prior to working in public relations, Kyla was a communications associate at Counterpart International, a small development organization based in Washington, D.C. Her role included writing and editing collateral materials for institutional donors, managing the redesign of the website, conceptualizing and implementing fundraising events, developing a media toolkit for field staff, and collecting stories about the organization's work in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Senegal.
She resides in Portland, Oregon, with her husband and lab, where they love to try all the food carts and marvel at how big the trees get in the Pacific Northwest.
