About Us

Welcome to Global Envision

Global Envision is Mercy Corps’ blog exploring innovative, market-driven solutions to poverty. It's dedicated to increasing awareness of two of the defining trends of our time — the spread of more open markets and the global fight against poverty.

The immense forces of globalization are changing the lives of hundreds of millions of people. But what do they really mean for the day-to-day life of a farmer in Honduras, a factory worker in Indonesia, or a small-business owner in Nigeria? And how do we, as development workers and as people of goodwill across the world, marshal the forces of globalization to help lift millions out of poverty?

At Mercy Corps, we take an entrepreneurial approach to solving seemingly intractable problems — constantly identifying, nurturing and testing new ideas. We don't pretend to have all the answers. But we do know that asking the right questions is the only way to ensure that the poor don't get left behind during this fundamental shift in the global economy.

Global Envision is part of our effort to foster a richer conversation about global poverty that will, over time, build a more fertile environment for greater action. By sharing information and resources about globalization and market solutions to poverty, we see this website as a place to explore the confluence of these two forces, and to engage our community in a vibrant and stimulating discussion. The growth of economic globalization and free markets holds great promise for poor communities around the world — but only if the process evolves with fairness and responsibility.

A world of overwhelming inequalities between rich and poor is a recipe for hopelessness, anger and social unrest. We believe a better world is possible — and that the information and ideas on this site will contribute to the debate. We welcome your input. Your ideas and involvement make the site a forum from which we all can learn.

Sincerely,
Neal Keny-Guyer
