It's never to late to travel and learn -- here are some ways to do just that.
Fellowships

Coro, Fellows, Summer, Youth, and Community Programs
Coro program participants learn about the real world in the real world -- by actively questioning, interacting with diverse constituents, finding resources and coming up with innovative solutions to the problems faced by their communities. Together, participants explore community dynamics, leadership and decision-making, while building the skills necessary for successful careers in business, politics, education, government and the non-profit sectors. Coro offers a nine-month fellowship as well as various summer and part-time, professional level programs.

Delaying the Real World, Delay the Real World Fellowship
This fellowship asks students what adventure they would like to embark upon in order to delay the 9-5 grind. The grant is $3,000 dollars and the adventure must begin with four months of receiving the grant. While there are no educational requirements, applicants must be between ages 21-29. Applicants write their proposed adventure via email. The 2007 application deadline is TBD -- 2006 and 2005 winners can be seen online.

ESA Research Network, International Conference
Research Netowrk Youth & Generation is a research network of European Sociological Association that is open for participation from youth researchers from all over Europe and abroad. It covers all aspects of sociological and cultural youth research. The network was founded in Budapest in 1995. The purpose of the network is to advance research and development in the field of youth sociology, transdisciplinary youth studies, and intergenerational issues, and to provide the main forum for sociological advancement and debate within this field on a European scale.

Volunteer Opportunities / Facilitated Travel

Global Exchange, Reality Tours
These tours offer socially responsible travel in a number of fascinating countries. From Afghanistan to Laos to Tanzania each tour has a different regional focus. Trips range from $850 to $3000 and last from 7 to 15 days. Global Exchange as an organization is dedicated to international human rights, and promotes political, environmental and social justice. Partial scholarships available.

Go Abroad, Volunteer and Intern Opportunities Abroad
GoAbroad.com is the leading international education and experiential travel resource. Their directories contain over 25,000 opportunities abroad updated daily including study abroad, internships, volunteer opportunities, teach abroad, language schools and much more.

Peace Boat, The Peace Boat Global Peace Voyage
Originally founded to foster understanding and communication in light of Japan's military action in WWII, the Peace Boat now offers a number of programs designed to promote peace, human rights, equal and sustainable development and respect for the environment. Global trips last around three months and visit between 15 and 20 countries. This is a great opportunity to promote peaceful international relations and travel the world. Each year Japan selects delegations from different countries to share in this life-changing journey. There are also a number of volunteer positions available on the boat and in the ports of call.

Travel to Teach, Volunteer Opportunities
This unique organization is meant to provide genuine experiences of other cultures to travelers while ensuring a valid work opportunity and providing education in some of the poorest areas in the world. Travel to Teach currently has programs in six countries and is one of the most accommodating and inexpensive organizations for international volunteering. Programs range any where from 3 weeks to 7 months or more depending on personal preference, with costs ranging from approximately $850 to $2000.

VolunTourism, Volunteer Opportunities

World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms, Volunteer Opportunities
WWOOF aims to enable people to learn first hand about organic growing techniques while helping farmers to make organic production a viable alternative. The website provides links, by country, to information on farms looking to host volunteers.

OneWorld, Jobs & Volunteering
OneWorld is a global information network developed to support communication media of the people, by the people and for the people — everywhere. Its goal is to help build a more just, global society, through its partnership community. The Jobs & Volunteering section brings together the latest jobs and volunteer positions from organizations working to create a better world.

Right to Play, Volunteer Opportunities
Right To Play is an athlete-driven international humanitarian organization that uses sport and play as a tool for the development of children and youth in the most disadvantaged areas of the world. Volunteers typically have experience in one or more of a number of fields and must be available for a 12 month period.
