Claire Adamsick is a Global Envision intern and is currently pursuing her master's degree in Conflict Resolution at Portland State University. She's a self-proclaimed Europhile but has attempted to break the habit via language immersion programs in Oaxaca, Mexico and Ecuador. Claire is passionate about bike-commuting, baking and perfecting her Minnesota accent.
Alok is a senior at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. He grew up in Lalitpur, Nepal. He loves to play cricket, hike, and explore new places on foot. His favorite novel authors are Jhumpa Lahiri and Alice Munro.
Taimi Arvidson is an intern for Mercy Corps in Portland. She is pursuing her B.A. at the University of Oregon in International Studies and Journalism where her major concentration is international development through communication and the media. She lived abroad in Finland in 2005 and has since traveled throughout Europe and Central America. In her free time she enjoys doing anything outside, from skiing Mount Hood to biking Eugene's pathways.
Amalia is a Global Envision intern. She attends Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, pursuing concentrations in International Studies, Spanish, and Urban Studies. She loves participating in Model United Nations at Trinity, but also enjoys snowboarding, hiking, and traveling the world.
Cathy Bergman is Mercy Corps' Food Security Program Officer, based in Portland.
Haley is a Global Envision intern. She is currently pursuing an international affairs major at Lewis and Clark College. Besides debating politics, Haley enjoys whitewater kayaking, backpacking, and hiking in her free time.
Terra Bliss has been an intern for Global Envision since September 2007. She is majoring in Communication, Philosophy, and Political Science at Portland State University, and is pursuing a career in public diplomacy. She has an affinity for news, politics, traveling, research, and the Middle East.
Kaitlin Bruno is a summer intern for Global Envision. She attends Mount Holyoke College where she is majoring in International Relations with a minor in French. Next year she hopes to spend a semester studying abroad in Paris. She enjoys reading a good book, going to the beach, shopping in Boston, and watching the Boston Red Sox play at Fenway.
Roger Burks is a Senior Writer for Mercy Corps, based in Orem, Utah. Over the last six years, he has traveled to more than a dozen countries — including Democratic Republic of the Congo, China, Uganda, Mongolia and Kosovo — to explore and document the agency's work. He also took part in Mercy Corps' emergency responses to Hurricane Katrina and the Haiti earthquake. Burks served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the small West African nation of Togo.
Peter Chaillé works as a researcher and consultant on a range of issues related to sustainable use of marine and land resources. He has a Ph.D. in Marine Biology from the University of California at Santa Barbara and has spent considerable time working in Hong Kong, Indonesia and Japan. He considers himself fortunate to be able to combine a love for SE Asia with the ability to work towards conserving threatened environments and improve the livelihoods of those who depend on them through the integration of science, business and experiential education programs.
Ching Li Chan is an intern at Global Envision. She has lived in 10 different countries, including India, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Indonesia. She has witnessed first-hand the struggle of those living in Third World countries and hopes to work in the field of International Development. Ching loves animals and as an alternate career path could see herself as a beluga whale trainer.
Nick is a New Mexican that recieved a B.A. in History from the rainy hilltop of Lewis and Clark College in 2007. Since graduation he has spent his time traveling in East Africa, working as an EMT in the high desert scrub of northern New Mexico, swimming in every body of water he comes across and looking forward to the next chance he can do more of the same. He currently works in the Emergency Department of Providence Portland Medical Center and has been slowly taking all the pesky science classes he never took in college to be able to pursue a career in some form of international medicine.
Erin Connelly is a volunteer for Global Envision. She currently works as a research coordinator at the Helfgott Research Institute at the National College of Natural Medicine. Erin has a BA in journalism from Penn State and an MA in sociology/policy studies from Lehigh University. Some of her favorite things include photography, kickball, bikes, books and exploring places near and far.

Bill Early conceived the Global Envision partnership with Mercy Corps on a visit to Mercy Corps' micro-lending programs in China with Ells Culver, Co-Founder of the organization. He began his world travels on a Navy training cruise in 1955, and he has continued to be an engaged global citizen ever since. Bill was a '58 graduate of Stanford University in History, and received his law degree from Harvard University in '64. His career with Jeld-Wen, Inc., a manufacturer of windows and doors, has spanned over thirty years. During that time, he has focused on the company's international operations in more than 20 countries. Bill is a leader and philanthropist, and he serves his community and church in numerous activities. Bill recently accepted an invitation to join The Bretton Woods Committee, a bipartisan, non-profit group organized to build public understanding of international financial and development issues and the role of the Bretton Woods institutions in the global economy. He also serves on the Board of Ambassadors for Mercy Corps, and is the Oregon Co-chair for the Initiative for Global Development (IGD), a nationwide alliance of private sector leaders who are working to make global poverty alleviation a high priority among national policymakers.
Evan is currently an intern with Global Envision. He is a senior International Affairs major at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR. He is also approaching his final year as a pitcher on the Lewis and Clark baseball team. Last fall Evan traveled to Havana, Cuba where he studied for three and a half months. Evan is originally from Boulder, CO and enjoys hiking, skiing, climbing and anything else that involves being outside and in the mountains.
Stephen Forbush received his BA from Lewis & Clark College in 2008, with concentrations in Communications and Philosophy. In addition to being a Global Envision Contributor, Stephen is currently pursuing his MPA in Global Leadership and Management at Portland State University.
Bree is a Global Envision intern in Portland, OR. She is currently studying Finance, International Economics, and French at Portland State University. When she isn’t studying Bree loves to read, cook, hike and above all — travel.
Brandon Gast has been an intern with Global Envision since September of 2007. He is finishing his B.A. in International Studies with a focus on African Studies at Portland State University. He has traveled to Kenya and Cameroon and will be studying in West Africa all of next year. He is passionate about fly fishing, cycling and photography.
Ian Goldsmith is an intern for Global Envision. He is majoring in Economics at Portland State University. Ian has traveled to all 48 contiguous states, The Netherlands and Costa Rica. Every Monday you can catch him playing futsal, an indoor version of soccer. He is passionate about cooking, New York Times crossword puzzles and his beloved Kansas City Royals.
Phillip Hafner is an intern for Global Envision and has recently recieved his Bachelor’s degree in Human Studies from Marylhurst University. Planning to pursue his Master’s degree in Anthropology next, he eventually aims to work in the field of humanitarian aid. Beyond academic and professional interests, Phillip enjoys quality time with his family, music, and soccer.

Leah Hazard is a Marketing Officer for Mercy Corps in Portland. She graduated from Lewis & Clark College with a BA in International Affairs and Economics minor, studying abroad in Botswana and Ecuador and traveling throughout Southern Africa and South America.
Meg Kowalik has been an intern with Global Envision since January 2008. She is currently a student at Lewis & Clark College, majoring in International Affairs. Originally from upstate New York, she has also lived in New Zealand and Switzerland. A rower and a cellist, she harbors a passion for photography and independent music.
Sara is a human rights, fair trade and local foods activist from Portland, Oregon. She received a B.A. in International Affairs and French from Lewis & Clark College in Portland. Her senior thesis focused on the effects of both trade liberalization and the oil industry on development in sub-Saharan Africa. She has lived in the U.S., France and Senegal, West Africa. Her research and travel experience lead her to support sustainability in local markets and a more just and equitable global political economy. In 2008 she worked as a Fair Trade advocate with Global Exchange, a national human-rights nonprofit. Now, Sara works simultaneously for her local farmer's markets and Global Envision. Later this year, Sara will be returning to francophone sub-Saharan Africa as a Peace Corps volunteer in Mali, to work for a Natural Resource Management program. She plans to pursue a career in human rights advocacy and international sustainable development.
Floyd Mann is a Portland-based Web Developer. He enjoys reading history, journalism and journalistic fiction and runs a popular bread-baking website,
The Fresh Loaf.
Clare Margason is an intern for
Global Citizen Corps and is currently studying International Sustainable Development and Music Performance at Portland State University. Clare has traveled to Latin America, Europe and Africa and dreams of visiting India before pursuing a master's degree in Conflict Resolution. Aside from traveling and school she loves to run, hike, cycle, and do anything outdoors.
Cami Martin has been with Mercy Corps since April of 2007. She graduated from the University of Oregon with a BA in English and Education. During her time at the University she studied abroad in South East Asia which awakened her passion for international and development work. She can often be found running on the trails of Forest Park and is an avid reader, aspiring writer and looks forward to more travel experiences including a trip to Africa in the fall.
Natalie is an intern with Global Envision. She is currently an economics major at Reed College and is writing her senior thesis on the collective management of common property resources. She just returned from a year abroad in Paris France and plans to travel more in the future.
David McNamee is an Associate Faculty and Chair of the BS in Business & Leadership program at Marylhurst University in Marylhurst, Oregon. Previously, he was Director of the BS in Business program at Concordia University. Mr. McNamee's experience includes stints as a manager with the State of Oregon, a small business owner, middle school teacher, elected public official, and a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. McNamee earned a BA in Communication at the University of Portland, a M.S. in International Relations at Syracuse University and is a PhD Candidate at Gonzaga University.
Laura Miller is the desk officer for Mercy Corps' Central Africa programs.
Sara Mitchell is a senior at Portland State University where she is working on a degree in Child and Family Studies. She is excited about graduating so she can start her next adventure. When she is not doing homework or working, she is at Mt. Hood, the coast, gardening or making art.
Krista is an intern for Global Envision. She attends Macalester College in the frozen tundra of St. Paul, MN, where she is majoring in International Studies, with a focus in Political Science. She spent her junior year abroad studying globalization in Tunisia and the Netherlands, researching the connections between language and identity. Krista likes to spend her free time planning her next global adventure.
Anna is a Global Envision intern. She is an English and Comparative Literature Studies Major at Occidental College in Los Angeles, California where she also works on the school newspaper.
Embry Owen is studying economics at Columbia University in New York City. This summer she is interning at Mercy Corps' Action Center to End World Hunger. In the future, she hopes to combine her interest in economic development, photography and food studies into a career in international development.
Julie Pachico graduated from Reed College in 2008 with a B.A. in Comparative Literature. She was born in Cambridge, England; grew up in Cali, Colombia; and has lived in Mexico and Ecuador. She currently lives in Portland, OR.
Lois Parshley is an intern for Global Envision. She currently attends Middlebury College and is majoring in Political Science and Anthropology with a minor in Economics. In her free time, she loves to hike, sail, and play water polo.
Ari is a contributing editor and writer for Global Envision. He also works for an independent book publisher. Ari occasionally considers things like attending journalism school in the future, but is currently busy with Pacific-Northwestern type activities such as gardening, bike riding, and most importantly, brunching.
Jess Reichard is an International Politcal Economy and Religion major at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. She spent the fall of her Junior year studying Muslim communities in Western Europe, where she traveled to France, Switzerland, Germany, England, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Turkey. She hopes, after much future traveling and completion of her undergraduate degree, to attend law school and become a human rights lawyer. Outside of her love for travel and advocacy, Jess is a self-admitted baking addict who hopes to someday own her own bakery-book-yarn-store in Vermont. Yes, Vermont.
Carmina Rinker is currently finishing her Master of Arts in Conflict Resolution at Portland State University. She works as the Evaluation and Assessment Coordinator of the African Diaspora Dialogue Project, a grant-funded project through a partnership between PSU and the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization. She has studied abroad in France, traveled extensively through Europe, and has done conflict resolution research on the divided island of Cyprus. Most recently, she has traveled to India to work with grassroots NGOs that focus on women’s development and microfinance in the state of Maharastra. Carmina enjoys traveling, camping, hiking, photography, and music.
Tripp is an intern with Global Envision. He recently completed a Masters at the Security Studies Program at Georgetown University. Tripp loves biking, hiking, reading and exploring new places with his kids.
Dan Sadowsky is a senior web writer for Mercy Corps in Portland. In his job he's traveled to Africa, Latin America and Central Asia, but for fun he'd rather go to India. He's a devoted reader of The Wall Street Journal, manages the company softball team and frequents the Rose Garden when the Blazers are in town.
Badar Salem is a contributor for Global Envision. She currently works as an editorial manager at a public relations agency in Dubai, UAE. Badar has a BA in journalism from BirZeit University in Palestine and a master degree in international journalism from Cardiff University in the UK. Some of her favorite things include books, traveling and debating.
Jill is pursuing an undergraduate degree in International Development Studies at Portland State University. She is focusing on public health in South Asian countries and is especially interested in India. She spent last summer in New Delhi, researching the barriers to community participation in maternal and child health projects in urban slums. Jill plans on pursuing a career in international development and traveling as much as possible.
Manasi Sharma is a recent graduate of the MPH program in Global Health at New York Medical College. She is currently an intern at Mercy Corps for Global Envision. Her future career hopes are to work in International Health and Human Rights Development, especially in women’s rights. Other than humanitarian issues and causes, Manasi enjoys travelling, working with children, cooking, and reading.
Sarah is a writer, Global Envision intern, Arabic teacher, and itinerant translator living in sunny Portland, which has more in common with her other favorite city of Damascus, Syria, than you might imagine. Neither shares much with New York, New York, where she lived for four years while studying at Barnard College, from which she graduated with a degree in Middle Eastern Studies and Human Rights. She enjoys travel, reading, and watching Syrian soap operas in her spare time.

April is a Global Envision intern. She received her B.A. in Philosophy/Law and Society and Political Science from the University of California, Riverside. She is currently applying to graduate schools and plans to pursue a career in international human rights. In her free time, April enjoys traveling, wine tasting, going to art galleries and music venues, and hiking.
From 2005-2007 Erin managed the overall operations of the Global Envision website for Mercy Corps. Her diverse career includes experience in charitable giving for Federated Department Stores, management of political campaigns, and the development of community service programs for college students as a staff member for The National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Erin has also served as a Community Builder Fellow for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and as an Urban Community Development Volunteer for Peace Corps in Ecuador. Erin has a B.A. in International Economic Development from The George Washington University and an M.A. in Peace and Conflict Resolution from the Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Amy is from the Pacific Northwest of the United States, and pretty sure it is the most beautiful place in the world. But these days she can't think too much about that - a senior at the University of Portland studying Political Science, Economics and French, she's pretty darn busy with the books. An internship with Global Envision here at Mercy Corps has proved to be a fun way to intertwine all these interests. If only a real job could do the same..
Lucy Wang is a summer intern for Global Envision. She currently attends Georgetown University and majors in international relations. She hopes to travel in Southeast Asia this fall. Later this summer, Lucy will be traveling to Taiwan to teach English. She enjoys photography, traveling and Indian food.
Wendy Werling is a Global Envision intern and is currently pursuing her master's degree in Conflict Resolution at Portland State University. She loves movies, biking, traveling, and cuddling orphans in Tanzania.
Chelsea Wieber is the site coordinator for Global Envision, based in Portland Oregon. She has worked for Mercy Corps for the past four years, first starting out in private fundrasing, and Global Envision for the past three. She has an international relations degree from the University of Oregon.
When she's not reading articles or editing posts, Chelsea likes to get out of town and explore new places.
Cecilia Uddenfeldt Wort is pursuing her undergraduate degree in social Anthropology and International Relations at the University of St Andrews, in Scotland. Her interest for the global sphere has probably emerged from living in Africa and Asia an obsession with traveling and reading. This summer she will be an embassy intern in Zimbabwe. In addition to writing she enjoys dancing,long walks in the Scottish country side, newspapers, licorice, live music and the show The Wire. She also dreams of learning the cello and knowing a third language, preferably Swahili.
