Quotable: Graca Machel wants women to play a leading role in Africa's growth story
In her keynote address at the second African Women Economic Summit in Lagos last week, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria's Minister for Finance, called for the creation of a bank that would cater exclusively to the financing needs of women. Okonjo-Iweala, one of the three final World Bank head candidates, was joined at the Summit by Mozambican politician and humanitarian Graca Machel :
We see this as an opportunity to engage with decision makers in the financial sector – policy makers, regulators, commercial banks and prominent women entrepreneurs to find ways to accelerate the inclusion of women in Africa’s growth story.
